As the owner of Small Business Promote, I use the years of knowledge and experience I have gained to help aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners achieve online success by teaching them how to blog and handle social media promotion. But one of the biggest pieces of advice I give young entrepreneurs who are also students is to find a mentor and follow them religiously. One great entrepreneur who I suggest following is Chrissy Weems.

The story of Chrissy and her daughter is such an inspiring one! Chrissy was instrumental in helping her daughter, Bella, create customizable lockets that women can personalize with charms that tell their stories.  Chrissy and Bella formally launched Origami Owl in July of 2010. (I have to say I adore the products from Origami Owl!) In case you’re not familiar with Origami Owl, it is a jewelry brand established by Chrissy and Bella Weems when Bella was just 14 years old.

Bella originally wanted to save money in order to buy her own used car when she was 16. Being a driven, passionate young woman, Bella was able to sell several lockets to family and friends and then expanded to help customers at in-home jewelry parties. In November of 2010, Bella and Chrissy opened a mall kiosk on Black Friday of 2010.  After finding success at the mall and wanting other women to be able to have the same success that they did, Origami Owl shifted to a social selling model in January of 2012. The brand showcases a line of customizable jewelry with glass lockets, miniature charms, and chains that can be personalized by the user according to his/her preferences.

As a young student entrepreneur, you couldn’t find a better mentor to follow. And just a heads up, Chrissy Weems is offering a $1000 scholarship to high school seniors who have been selected to attend a college or university and current college students.
